The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Birim South in the Eastern Region, Hon. Abdul Rahim Taaju, has commended former Controller and Accountant-General, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, for his sustained efforts in lobbying major development projects for communities within the district.

According to the DCE, Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem distinguished himself through his commitment to the development of the area, particularly by using his position and influence during his tenure in public service to advocate for projects that respond to the needs of local communities.

Hon. Taaju said he is impressed by the number of development initiatives secured for communities including Akyem Swedru, Aduasa and other communities, describing the former Controller and Accountant-General as a civic-minded leader who placed the interests and development of his community above personal considerations.

He made the remarks at a ceremony held to commission a newly constructed nurses’ quarters and a 10-seater modern public toilet facility at Akyem Aduasa.

The DCE said the projects demonstrates the importance of leadership and effective lobbying in securing development interventions for communities, particularly at a time when public resources remain limited.

“The little I have studied in Economics is that our wants are numerous but the resources are limited. So, I will say that the development we are looking forward to seeing in our communities is not easy to come by. One has to fight hard in lobbying at the top, and exactly that is what Mr. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem did when he was in office.”

Hon. Taaju noted that the two facilities commissioned at Aduasa represents only part of the development interventions associated with Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem’s efforts in the area.

He cited the ongoing disability skills training centre at Aduasa and the boys’ dormitory project at Akyem Swedru Senior High School (AKISSS), both of which he said are at advanced stages of completion.

“These are not the only two projects we are witnessing. He also lobbied for the construction of a disability skills training centre, which is nearing completion, and equally lobbied for the construction of a boys’ dormitory at Akyem Swedru Senior High School, which is also almost completed,” he said.

The DCE described Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem’s contribution as an example of leadership that prioritises community growth and development.

“This is what we call a good leader who has the growth and development of his communities at heart,” Hon. Taaju stated.

He assured residents that the Birim South District Assembly would work to facilitate the completion of the ongoing projects so they could be put to their intended use.

“I want to assure you that I will also do everything possible to ensure the completion of these projects to serve the people,” he added.

The DCE also expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as the government’s continued support for development in the Birim South District.

He disclosed that contractors had been directed to return to site to resume and complete work on the Akyem Swedru-Aduasa-Apoli road, a project he acknowledged had generated significant concern among residents.

According to him, engineers had been deployed from Accra to assess and monitor the project to ensure that the road was completed to the required standard.

“I want to use the opportunity to thank His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his continued support for Birim South. As we speak, the government has ordered the contractors to come back to site to complete the Akyem Swedru, Aduasa-Apoli road and to ensure that the work is done and done well,” he said.

Hon. Taaju further commended the Chief of Aduasa, Osabarima Abrokwa Gyampem IV, and residents for their cooperation with the contractors as work on the road progresses.

For his part, Mr. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem expressed satisfaction with the completion of the nurses’ quarters and modern public toilet facility.

He said the nurses’ accommodation would help improve the working conditions of health personnel serving the community, while the toilet facility would contribute to efforts to address open defecation and improve sanitation.

He urged residents to take ownership of the facilities, maintain them properly and ensure that they serve their intended purposes for the benefit of the community.

The former Controller and Accountant-General reiterated his commitment to supporting development initiatives in the district and pledged to continue contributing to projects that would improve the living conditions of residents.

The Chief of Aduasa, Osabarima Abrokwa Gyampem IV, expressed gratitude to Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem for his role in spearheading and lobbying development projects for the community.

He praised the former Controller and Accountant-General for what he described as efforts to promote growth, improve living conditions and modernise infrastructure in Aduasa.

However, the chief used the occasion to appeal to Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem to extend his support to the ongoing expansion of the Aduasa Community Clinic.

Osabarima Abrokwa Gyampem IV explained that the expansion project is being funded entirely by community members through local contributions and appealed for assistance to help bring the project to completion.

Residents of Aduasa expressed excitement over the completion of the two facilities and commended Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem for his contribution to development in the area.

They said the nurses’ quarters would help address accommodation challenges faced by health workers, while the modern public toilet would provide a much-needed sanitation facility for residents and visitors.

The commissioning of the projects adds to a number of development interventions being undertaken or supported in the Birim South area, including the disability skills training centre at Aduasa and the boys’ dormitory at Akyem Swedru Senior High School.

Residents expressed the hope that the two ongoing projects would be completed soon so they could also be commissioned and made available for use.
