Residents of Obeyeyie Forest Estate in the Ga West Municipality have voiced growing frustration over persistent flooding and a dangerously damaged electricity transformer pole, calling for urgent intervention from authorities.
The Obeyeyie Forest Estate Landlords Association (OFELA) says the area’s poor drainage system continues to expose homes to flooding, especially during the rainy season.
According to the association, the current situation reflects years of neglect, with gutters undersized or abandoned.
Obeyeyie Forest Estate, a rapidly developing community known for its modern and luxury homes, has seen an influx of residents relocating to completed properties.

However, the lack of adequate infrastructure, particularly drainage, has become a major setback for the otherwise thriving enclave.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a community clean-up exercise, Chairman of OFELA, Patrick Adu Opoku, stressed the need for a shift from short-term, reactive measures to long-term, sustainable drainage solutions.
He noted that existing drains are incapable of handling the volume of water brought by increasingly intense rainfall patterns.

“We need a proper drainage system to prevent recurring flooding in this community,” he said, urging government and municipal authorities to prioritise the issue.
Beyond the flooding concerns, residents are also worried about a damaged Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer pole, which they describe as a looming disaster.
According to Mr. Opoku, the transformer caught fire months ago, severely burning the supporting pole and leaving it in a precarious state.
“The pole is badly damaged, and any slight trigger could lead to a serious disaster. It poses a major threat to lives and property,” he warned.

He added that multiple complaints have been lodged with both ECG and the local assembly, but no action has been taken so far.
“We have notified ECG and the assembly, but nothing has been done. We are appealing through the media for them to come and fix it before any tragedy occurs,” he reiterated.
Responding to the concerns, Assembly Member for the area, Mohammed Nii Boye Aryee, assured residents of swift action.
He indicated that the assembly is already undertaking several infrastructure projects, including drainage construction, and that Obeyeyie Forest Estate will soon benefit from these interventions.
He also confirmed that the issue of the faulty transformer has been reported and expressed optimism that ECG would act promptly to resolve the situation.

Landlords, however, say they remain cautiously hopeful as they await concrete action to address the challenges threatening their safety and livelihoods.
