Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has praised the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Ashanti Regional Police Command and the IGP’s Special Operations Team (SOT) for their dedicated efforts in enhancing security and combating crime across the country.
The commendation was delivered during a courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, when the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP) Arthur Osei Akoto, led the Director of the IGP’s Special Operations Team, Superintendent Augustine Dawson-Ahmoah, his deputies and other members of the unit to pay homage to the Asantehene.
During the meeting, COP Arthur Osei Akoto formally introduced the Special Operations Team to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and briefed him on the Inspector-General of Police’s vision behind the establishment of the unit.
According to the Police Commander, the Special Operations Team was created to strengthen intelligence-led policing, improve crime prevention strategies and enhance public safety through targeted operations across the country.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II noted that the sustained intelligence-driven operations undertaken by the team have produced significant results, particularly in the Ashanti Region.
He observed that the operations have contributed to reducing incidents of drug trafficking, armed robbery, human trafficking and other forms of criminal activity, thereby improving the overall security situation in the region.
The Asantehene commended the officers for their professionalism and dedication to duty, describing their efforts as critical to maintaining law and order and protecting the lives and property of citizens.
He further encouraged members of the Special Operations Team and the Ghana Police Service to remain disciplined, committed and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities.
According to Otumfuo, policing is a noble profession that requires dedication, sacrifice and integrity, urging officers to continue serving the nation with honour while upholding the highest ethical standards.
The revered traditional ruler also advised security personnel to prioritise their personal safety while carrying out lawful operations, stressing that their wellbeing is essential to sustaining effective policing.
Responding to the Asantehene’s remarks, the Director of the IGP’s Special Operations Team, Superintendent Augustine Dawson-Ahmoah, expressed gratitude for the words of encouragement and support.
He assured Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that the team remains committed to sustaining intelligence-led operations aimed at protecting lives and property while supporting the Ghana Police Service in its mission to maintain peace, security and public order nationwide.
The visit forms part of ongoing engagements between the Ghana Police Service and key national stakeholders as the Service continues to strengthen partnerships in the fight against crime and the promotion of public safety across the country.
