Madina Member of Parliament, Francis-Xavier Sosu, is in stable condition and receiving medical attention after he reportedly took ill while delivering a presentation at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
Parliament confirmed the development in a statement issued following the circulation of a video on social media showing the legislator experiencing the incident during the presentation.
According to Parliament, Dr Sosu received immediate assistance at the event before being transferred to a medical facility for further attention.
“Parliament is pleased to confirm that Hon. Sosu is in stable condition and is under the care of his medical team,” the statement said.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been disclosed, and Parliament has cautioned the public and media against speculating about the cause of Dr Sosu’s condition.
The legislator, who represents the Madina Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, was reportedly delivering a presentation at GIMPA when he took ill.
Parliament expressed appreciation to the management and staff of GIMPA, the medical personnel who attended to the MP, and others who responded promptly to the situation.
It also thanked members of the public for their prayers and messages of goodwill following news of the incident.
Parliament has meanwhile appealed to the public and media organisations to stop sharing the video of the incident, citing respect for Dr Sosu and his family.
It further urged the public to refrain from making assumptions about his health condition and to respect the privacy of his family while he receives medical care.
“Further updates will be communicated through official channels of Parliament as appropriate,” Parliament stated.
Dr Francis-Xavier Sosu is a lawyer and Member of Parliament for Madina. He has served on a number of parliamentary committees and has been involved in legal, human rights and governance-related advocacy.
The latest update from Parliament indicates that the MP remains under the care of his medical team in stable condition.
