The Ghana Police Service has arrested Israel Kwadwo Safo in connection with a shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
According to a statement issued by the Police, the incident occurred on Saturday, June 21, 2026, prompting investigations by law enforcement authorities.
Police said the suspect, also known as Akofena, voluntarily reported himself to the Regional Police Headquarters on Sunday, June 22, 2026.
He was subsequently transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations into the matter.
As part of the investigation, security personnel conducted searches on the suspect’s vehicle and residence located at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.
The search reportedly led to the retrieval of a cache of ammunition and firearms, including 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, additional loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols.
Police indicated that one of the pistols recovered is legally registered in the suspect’s name.
The Police further disclosed that investigations into the case led to the arrest of two additional suspects identified as Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson.
All three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations.
The Police Service stated that the suspects are expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, June 23, 2026, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.
The incident has generated significant public attention due to the involvement of former lawmaker Sarah Adwoa Safo and members of the prominent Safo family.
