The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven persons in separate intelligence-led operations targeting suspected narcotics-related activities in parts of the Ashanti Region.
The arrests were carried out on Thursday, August 20, 2026, by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT) at Ejisu, Abrepo Junction and Atimatim.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the operations followed intelligence gathered on suspected activities involving the possession, control, use and peddling of narcotic substances.
At Ejisu, the Police arrested two men identified as Nana Kwadwo Adu, 43, and Nana Kwame Fella, 48.
Four other suspects were arrested at Abrepo Junction. They are Stephanie Anokye, 23; Roland Anokye, 20; Gideon Owusu, 30; and Grace Fosua, 27.
At Atimatim, the Special Operations Team arrested Kofi Opoku, 27, who was allegedly suspected of involvement in the peddling of narcotic substances.
The Police said Opoku had reportedly evaded arrest on previous occasions before the latest operation led to his apprehension.
The operations also resulted in the recovery of various substances suspected to be narcotic and unregistered pharmaceutical products.
According to the Police, officers retrieved quantities of pill pouches containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, as well as quantities of Tramaking 225mg and 250mg, Royal 255mg and Rophynol 100mg.
The team also recovered 860 tablets and capsules of Tramadol, which the Police suspect are unregistered drugs.
An unspecified amount of Ghanaian currency was also recovered during the operations.
The Police have not yet disclosed the exact quantity or weight of the suspected narcotic substances recovered.
The seven suspects are currently in Police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command said investigators are working to establish the source of the substances, determine the full extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement and identify other individuals who may be connected to the suspected narcotics-related activities.
The Command said the investigation would continue as the Police work to gather further evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the possession and distribution of the substances.
The arrests form part of the Police Service’s ongoing intelligence-led operations in the Ashanti Region aimed at tackling narcotics-related activities and other criminal conduct.
The Police Command has urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to assist law enforcement agencies in preventing crime and maintaining public safety and security.
The Command said it would provide further updates on the case as and when necessary.
