The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in a narcotics operation within the Accra metropolis, uncovering suspected cocaine and large sums of cash linked to drug trafficking activities.
The arrests followed intelligence received on April 10, 2026, by the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police, indicating that a group was planning to sell suspected narcotic drugs in the Dzorwulu area.
Acting swiftly, police mounted a surveillance operation and, on April 11, moved in to apprehend two suspects—Bright Ayivor and Ifeanyi Ijeoba.
According to police, the two were found with 22 compressed substances believed to be cocaine, which were allegedly being prepared for sale to a prospective buyer.
Further interrogation of the suspects led investigators to a third individual, Kwabena Botwe, described as a key figure in the suspected drug network.
A follow-up intelligence-led operation at Caprice resulted in his arrest during a planned transaction involving proceeds from the alleged drug trade.
Police say Botwe subsequently led officers to his residence at Greda Estates, where a search uncovered GH¢400,000 in cash and a counting machine believed to be used in handling illicit proceeds.
In a dramatic turn during the operation, the suspect allegedly attempted to bribe officers with an additional GH¢420,000.
The money has since been seized and retained as evidence.
All three suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
The police say the operation underscores their continued commitment to combating drug trafficking and maintaining public safety within the capital.
