Motorists travelling on the Accra-Kumasi Highway are being advised to use alternative routes following a major road crash that has completely blocked traffic at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Highway.
According to a public notice issued by the Ghana Police Service, the collision involved a high-occupancy passenger bus, a loaded articulated truck, and a sedan, leading to a total obstruction of both the Accra-bound and Kumasi-bound sections of the highway.
The crash, which occurred on Sunday, August 3, 2026, has prompted the Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) from Kibi to deploy officers to the scene to manage traffic and coordinate emergency response efforts.
To ease congestion and ensure the movement of vehicles, the police have introduced temporary traffic diversions for motorists travelling in both directions.
Drivers heading towards Accra have been redirected through Kibi at Nsutam, while those travelling towards Kumasi are being diverted at Apedwa until the accident scene is cleared and normal traffic flow is restored.
The police have appealed to motorists and other road users to remain patient and cooperate with officers stationed along the diversion routes.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding casualties or the cause of the crash. Investigations are expected to commence after the scene has been cleared.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations, and follow directions from police officers to ensure their safety and facilitate the smooth restoration of traffic on one of the country’s busiest highways.
