The Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate has disrupted a planned robbery operation in Obuasi, leading to the arrest of two suspects linked to recent criminal activities in the area.
According to police sources, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence received on April 16, 2026, indicating that a group of armed men were preparing to launch an attack.
Acting swiftly, a police team tracked and arrested Iddrisu Fuseini, popularly known as “Iddi,” at his hideout in Bedieso, a suburb of Obuasi.
During interrogation, Fuseini reportedly confessed to being part of a six-member gang responsible for a robbery attack on an Indian national at New Baakoyeden on April 12, 2026.
The gang is said to have made away with GH₵150,000.
Investigators revealed that the attack was allegedly facilitated by an insider identified as Ibrahim, an employee of the victim, who tipped off the gang about the presence of large sums of money in the residence.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Shaibu Mohammed, also known as “SM” or “Cicinati,” on April 20, 2026, at Gausu in Obuasi.
Police say Mohammed admitted his involvement in planning the robbery and disclosed that the group had also targeted a distribution company located near Mawuli Hotel in the area for a subsequent attack.
Authorities have also confirmed that both suspects are currently standing trial at the Obuasi Circuit Court over a separate robbery case involving GH₵600,000.
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for the remaining members of the gang, identified only as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim.
Security agencies believe the suspects may still be in possession of a pump-action gun and a locally manufactured pistol.
The police have assured the public of intensified operations to apprehend the remaining suspects and urged residents to volunteer any information that could assist in the ongoing investigations.
