The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, for allegedly issuing threats against President John Dramani Mahama in videos that circulated widely on social media.
According to the police, the suspect appeared in several TikTok videos in which she allegedly made offensive and insulting comments directed at the President.
The videos also reportedly contained threats against the life of the President and comments said to be encouraging attacks on both the President and the First Lady.
The police said the videos gained significant attention online, prompting investigations by the IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team. Authorities described the content as threatening and potentially inciting violence.
In a statement, the Ghana Police Service disclosed that a joint intelligence-led operation involving personnel from CVET and the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department was launched following the circulation of the videos.
The operation led to the arrest of the suspect on May 20, 2026, at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region.
Police indicated that the suspect is currently in custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
The development comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of social media platforms to spread threats, incite violence, and publish offensive content targeting public officials and state institutions.
The Ghana Police Service has in recent months intensified monitoring of online activities through its cybercrime and intelligence units as part of efforts to combat digital-related offences and maintain national security.
