The Eastern Regional Police Command has rescued a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted from Agormanya Zongo in the Odumase-Krobo District, leading to the arrest of a 36-year-old woman at the airport.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua, the suspect, identified as Regina Mamle Tawiah, was apprehended on Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Accra International Airport following swift police investigations and intelligence gathering.
The case began on Sunday, April 19, 2026, when the victim’s father reported to the Odumase-Krobo District Police Command that his daughter had left home but failed to return.
Acting on the report, police officers, in collaboration with personnel from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), tracked the suspect to the airport, where the child was found and rescued.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was allegedly attempting to transport the victim to Kenya before her arrest.
The rescued girl has since been safely reunited with her father.
Regina Mamle Tawiah was arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court remanded her into police custody, and she is expected to reappear on May 5, 2026, for a case management conference.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
