Residents of Adamrobe in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern Region have intensified calls for the immediate rehabilitation of the deteriorating Adamrobe-Aburi-Oyibi road, citing years of neglect and the severe hardships imposed on commuters, businesses, students, and healthcare seekers.
The demand was formally made through a petition presented during a peaceful picketing exercise organized by concerned citizens and residents of the community on June 1, 2026.
The petition, read and presented by Prophetess Roda Badu Antwi, Secretary of Zion Obotentim Radio Station, expressed frustration over what they described as the continuous neglect of the vital road despite repeated appeals to the government.
According to the petitioners, a previous appeal was submitted on January 9, 2026, to the Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, Lawrencia Adwoa Dziwornu, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), highlighting the worsening condition of the road and its impact on the lives of residents.
However, they lamented that despite assurances from authorities, no visible rehabilitation works have commenced.
The residents noted that the road’s deplorable state continues to hamper transportation and economic activities within the area while limiting access to essential services, including healthcare and education.

“During the rainy season, the road becomes nearly inaccessible, exposing residents to danger and economic hardship,” the petition stated.
The community also recalled assurances given by the Akuapem South Member of Parliament during a thank-you tour on September 18, 2025, attended by the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
According to them, the MP assured residents that she had consistently pushed for the rehabilitation of the road since assuming office and indicated that the project had been included in the government’s “Big Push” infrastructure agenda under President John Dramani Mahama.
Those assurances, residents said, gave the community renewed hope that work on the road would begin soon.
“Several months later, the road remains in a deplorable condition, with no significant intervention undertaken,” the petitioners noted.
The residents stressed that their decision to embark on the peaceful demonstration was motivated by their desire to use democratic means to draw national attention to the plight of the community.
They called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highway Authority, the Department of Feeder Roads, the Akuapem South Municipal Assembly, the Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, and other relevant stakeholders to prioritize the rehabilitation of the road without further delay.

The petition further warned that if authorities fail to address the situation, the community would organize peaceful protest actions every six months until the road is fully rehabilitated.
“We remain hopeful that government and all responsible authorities will respond swiftly to this urgent cry of the people and prevent further suffering within the community,” they maintained.
Responding to the concerns, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem South, Hon. Paul Osae Offei, commended the residents for using lawful means to advocate for development in their community.
“We want to thank you for your advocacy. We don’t take any offence and have no issue with citizens exercising their rights to raise awareness about matters that concern them,” he said.
The MCE explained that previous NDC administration had demonstrated commitment to fixing the road, noting that it was captured under the Cocoa Roads Programme around 2016 and that work had commenced before being interrupted.
According to him, subsequent government decisions to audit the Cocoa Roads projects affected progress on several road contracts across the country, including the Adamrobe road project.

Mr. Osae Offei clarified that the road is an inter-regional route and therefore falls outside the direct mandate and financial capacity of the Municipal Assembly.
“We have engaged the leadership of this exercise and explained that this is an inter-regional road. The Assembly does not have the mandate or financial muscle to undertake such a project on its own,” he stated.
Despite these limitations, the MCE assured residents that the Assembly remains committed to advocating on their behalf and ensuring that the relevant authorities take action.
“What we are going to do is continue the advocacy and ensure that whoever has to hear about this road hears about it and comes in to help us,” he added.
As an interim measure, he disclosed that the Assembly plans to deploy its grader to undertake remedial works on portions of the road while awaiting a major intervention from central government.
“We have a programme for the year, and this road is part of it. We will carry out some remedial work while we wait for central government intervention,” he said.
Hon. Osae Offei further assured residents that government had not forgotten about the community and expressed confidence that the road would eventually be rehabilitated under President Mahama’s infrastructure agenda.
“We want to assure the people of Adamrobe that we have not forgotten about them. This road will be fixed, and they should trust the President to fulfil his commitment under the Big Push programme,” he emphasized.
The Adamrobe-Aburi-Oyibi road remains a critical transportation link for several communities in the area, and residents say its rehabilitation is essential for improving mobility, boosting local economic activity, and enhancing access to social services.
As calls for action grow louder, attention will now turn to the relevant road agencies and central government to determine when the long-awaited project will finally commence.
