Sammy Crabbe, an aspirant for the National Chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has withdrawn from the race and declared his support for fellow contender John Boadu.

Mr Crabbe announced his decision ahead of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference, where delegates are expected to elect new national officers of the opposition party.

In a brief announcement, the former aspirant said he had decided to step aside and support Mr Boadu in the contest.

“Let’s win together!” Mr Crabbe said in announcing his decision.

His withdrawal effectively narrows the field in the contest for the party’s National Chairmanship as delegates prepare to vote on the new leadership of the NPP.

Mr Boadu, a former General Secretary of the party and former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), is among the leading figures seeking to become the party’s National Chairman.

Mr Crabbe’s decision to throw his support behind Mr Boadu is expected to influence the dynamics of the chairmanship contest, particularly as the party heads into the crucial delegates’ election.

The development also adds to the series of strategic alignments and withdrawals that typically characterise competitive internal elections as aspirants seek to consolidate support ahead of voting.

The NPP is holding its National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with thousands of delegates from across the country participating in the election of the party’s national officers.

The outcome of the elections will determine the composition of the party’s national leadership as it prepares for its next phase of political activity.

Mr Crabbe’s endorsement means his supporters will now be encouraged to rally behind Mr Boadu as the chairmanship contest enters its decisive stage.
