A specialized joint security task force has apprehended six individuals suspected of involvement in the recent wave of communal violence that has gripped the Nkwanta township.
The arrests follow a series of targeted, intelligence-led operations designed to restore order and identify the primary actors behind the unrest.

According to a statement released by the Oti Regional Police Headquarters, the crackdown unfolded in two phases.
On Sunday March 29, 2026, the security forces picked up the first two suspects, while on Tuesday March 31, 2026, an additional four suspects were taken into custody during follow-up operations.
All six suspects are currently being held at the Regional Headquarters, where they are reportedly assisting investigators in uncovering the root causes and specific incidents linked to the recent clashes.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police, John Nchor, speaking on behalf of the Public Affairs Office, emphasized that while the arrests are a significant step forward, the cooperation of the local community remains vital.
”Residents of Nkwanta and its surrounding communities are urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing any relevant information that may support the investigations,” the statement read.
Beyond the physical security presence, authorities are also battling a “war of words.”
The police have issued a stern advisory to the public regarding the digital landscape to refrain from spreading misinformation, stressing that false reports can act as a catalyst for further violence.
The police stated that both physical and verbal provocations are being monitored, maintaining that information can be channeled through official lines to ensure a swift response.
The security agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a 24-hour presence in the area until total normalcy is restored.
