The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects believed to be part of a robbery syndicate linked to a string of high-profile attacks across several parts of the country, including Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi, and Takoradi.
According to the Police, the suspects are alleged to have orchestrated multiple robbery operations in which victims were dispossessed of large sums of money, gold, and mercury through elaborate deception schemes and armed intimidation.
The arrests were carried out through the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) following weeks of intelligence-led investigations.
Police said investigations were triggered after a complaint was lodged by an Ivorian investor, Mousa Bamba, who claimed he had been targeted in a sophisticated gold scam and robbery operation in Accra.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the investor had been lured to Dzorwulu under the pretext of purchasing six kilograms of gold valued at approximately US$450,000.
However, upon arriving at the agreed location, the suspects allegedly posed as Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers and military personnel, brandishing weapons and robbing the investor before fleeing the scene.
The Police said the initial phase of investigations led to the arrest of Mohammed Umaro, also known as Alhaji, and Gabriel Sewornu, popularly called Dangote.
Further intelligence gathering and interrogations later implicated two military officers — Lance Corporal Eugene Akurugu and Lance Corporal Emmanuel Arko, also known as Bullet — as well as three Police officers identified as Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga.
The Ghana Police Service disclosed that the implicated Police officers have been interdicted to allow for thorough investigations into their alleged involvement in the criminal activities.
In a major breakthrough, the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the IGP conducted additional intelligence-led operations on May 23 and 24, 2026, leading to the arrest of more suspects connected to the syndicate.
The additional suspects were identified as Justin Oduro, also known as Don King or Mafia, Clement Gyasi, and Farouk Zakari.
Police said all the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other accomplices believed to be linked to the robbery network.
The Police Service reiterated its commitment to fighting organised crime and assured the public that all persons found culpable, regardless of their status or affiliation, would be made to face the full rigours of the law.
