The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has officially denied social media rumors suggesting that the Sector Minister sponsored private individuals on business class flights to Germany.
The clarification follows a viral video circulating on various platforms, which alleged that the Minister had funded high-end travel for a group of people to attend the Black Stars’ upcoming international friendly matches.
In a press statement issued by Bagbara Tanko, Head of PR and Communications, the Ministry clarified that the individuals seen in the video were strangers to the Minister.
According to the statement, the interaction took place briefly in an airport departure tunnel as the Minister was boarding his flight.
The Ministry described the exchange as a “casual” interaction between a public official and citizens, which has since been taken out of context to create a “misleading narrative.”
To set the record straight, the Ministry highlighted the following points regarding the trip:
The Minister traveled alone on an official assignment to meet with the Black Stars players and technical staff.
No Ministry staff or external delegation accompanied him.
The Ministry has not committed any public or corporate sponsorship funds toward these two friendly matches.
No arrangements were made by the government to facilitate fan travel or ticket upgrades for these fixtures.
”The Ministry wishes to state unequivocally that these claims are false and without any basis.
No individual was sponsored, facilitated, or upgraded by the Minister or the Ministry,” the statement read.
The Ministry urged the general public to disregard the viral claims, reaffirming its commitment to the “prudent use of public resources” and transparency in its operations.
This response comes amid heightened public scrutiny regarding government spending on national team activities.
By distancing itself from the costs of the friendly matches, the Ministry aims to quell concerns over budgetary indiscretion.
