Former Deputy Health Minister and Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has launched a scathing critique of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the controversial “Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill.”
In a recent social media post, the MP accused the Majority side of using the LGBTQ+ issue as a political tool for electioneering while failing to prioritize it when it mattered most.
Hon. Acquah dismissed the narrative that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is responsible for the delays, pointing out that when the executive branch has a priority, it possesses the “machinery” to see it through.
He highlighted the efficiency of the last parliamentary meeting as proof, indicating that the government introduced and passed about 10 bills during that session alone.
He reiterated that the government has a way of pushing through bills that are relevant to its agenda; however, he suggested this bill has been sidelined.
He labeled the NDC’s current stance as “mind games,” suggesting the public can no longer be deceived by their tactics.
In a sharp religious metaphor, the former Deputy Minister compared the current situation to the biblical denial of Jesus by Peter, stating that Christians feel “betrayed on Easter” by the government’s handling of the issue.
The Akyem Oda lawmaker claimed the NDC’s stance on the bill was merely a “propaganda” tool to secure votes, suggesting they have now abandoned the cause after winning power.

The signing of the anti-gay bill cannot be premised on parliament passing it if same were this govts priority.
This government introduced about 10 bills that were passed in the last meeting of parliament with some whose importance were contested by the minority.
Gov’t has a way of pushing through bills that are very relevant to them. Pls NDC stop the mind games. Ghanaians can see through your actions.
