Tension has flared in the Ejisu Municipality as a group alleged to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stormed the local National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office, forcibly locking out the Scheme Manager.
The demonstration, which took place earlier this morning, reportedly stems from long-standing grievances regarding alleged partisan bias and administrative bottlenecks at the facility.
Witnesses report that the group arrived at the premises, ordered staff out of the manager’s office, and placed their own padlocks on the door.
Protesters claim the office has been “politicized,” alleging that recruitment and service delivery have unfairly favored members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
They also cited poor management of the scheme within the municipality as a reason for their actions.
Security personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident to maintain order and prevent the situation from escalating into a physical confrontation.
As the NHIA is a critical public service, disruptions to its administration could directly impact healthcare access for thousands of local residents.
As of this afternoon, the office remains under lock and key. Regional NHIA executives and local NDC leadership are expected to meet with security officials to resolve the impasse and ensure that essential health services for the public are not halted.
