A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of two off-duty police officers in the Ofoase-Ayirebi District.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening while the officers were returning from a personal errand.
According to preliminary reports, the officers were traveling on a motorbike from Ayirebi, where they had reportedly gone to purchase food.
The journey turned fatal when their motorbike crashed into a stationary tricycle parked along the road.
One officer was operating the motorcycle, while the second served as a pillion rider.
The impact of the collision resulted in severe trauma to their heads and lower limbs, leading to profuse bleeding at the scene.
The operator of the motorbike died on the spot.
His colleague was rushed to the Brenase Polyclinic by first responders but was unfortunately pronounced dead upon arrival.
The bodies of both officers have since been transported to the Ofoase-Ayirebi Hospital Mortuary for preservation, pending further investigation.
Local authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the stationary tricycle and whether poor visibility or a lack of warning signals contributed to the crash.
The identities of the officers are being withheld pending the notification of their immediate families.
