The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the murder of a student of the University of Cape Coast.
The suspect, identified as Michael Mensah, was apprehended by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team on Sunday, June 15, 2026, at about 7:15 p.m. at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast after what police described as sustained intelligence-led operations.
According to a police statement, the suspect is alleged to have murdered Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, whose death has sparked concern among students and residents in the Cape Coast area.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that on June 11, 2026, at approximately 6:48 p.m., the suspect, who reportedly claims to be a teacher but also works as a driver, picked up the deceased from Ayensu Plaza within the UCC hostel enclave.
Police say the suspect subsequently transported the victim to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen alive.
