Moving beyond traditional parades and speeches, Dr. Ayariga suggests that March 6th should become a day of nationwide economic relief, characterized by a 50% reduction in the cost of goods and services.
The APC leader believes that the true spirit of independence should be felt directly in the pockets of every Ghanaian.
He is urging businesses and service providers to mark the occasion by slashing prices whether through mandatory policy or voluntary participation offering a 50% discount on essential goods.
His proposal includes a reduction in fees for transportation, hair styling, and other professional services.
In effect, the citizenry would be encouraged to prioritize the sale and consumption of locally manufactured products, creating a high-energy shopping atmosphere that benefits both the merchant and the consumer.
Dr. Ayariga argues that for many, Independence Day has become a purely ceremonial event with little impact on daily life.
By introducing significant discounts, he believes the country can achieve more tangible goals.
”Independence Day should be practical and beneficial, not just ceremonial. Lower prices would allow those struggling financially to actually participate in the celebration,” Dr. Hassan Ayariga reiterated.
The APC leader maintains that while profit is important, the “Independence Sale” would serve as a powerful corporate social responsibility gesture toward the nation.
By making the holiday more inclusive, Ghana can foster a deeper sense of patriotism and community support.
