Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has indicated that no Ghanaian deaths or injuries have been recorded following the rising tensions in the Middle East.
He has reported that the Ministry has successfully compiled a comprehensive database of all nationals, including permanent residents, workers, short-term visitors, and transiting travelers.
In a statement released via his official Facebook page, the Foreign Minister provided a reassuring update regarding the status of Ghanaians in the affected regions.
He revealed that all Missions have been tasked with identifying citizens within their jurisdictions who wish to be returned to Ghana.
This data, he said, will be submitted for “urgent consideration” by the government to determine the scale of a state-sponsored evacuation exercise.
This came to light when the Minister convened an emergency high-level virtual meeting with Ghana’s top diplomats across the Middle East to coordinate the protection and potential evacuation of Ghanaian nationals as regional tensions escalate.
The meeting included Heads of Mission from Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Iran, and Turkey.
The primary objective was to assess the safety of the diaspora and establish a roadmap for government intervention.
While formal evacuation orders are being weighed by the government, the Foreign Minister revealed that active operations are already taking place on the ground.
”Our diplomatic missions are currently assisting a considerable number of Ghanaians escape across certain strategic border crossings,” Ablakwa stated.
The Minister reiterated that the welfare of Ghanaians abroad remains the administration’s “utmost priority” during this volatile period.
As the situation develops, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration is expected to provide further updates on flight schedules or designated safe zones.
The Minister concluded by signaling a unified national effort to bring Ghanaians home safely.
