In response to rising fuel prices and growing public concern, the government has announced a series of immediate interventions following an emergency Cabinet meeting.

Top among the decisions is a directive to the Ministers of Finance and Energy to ensure a reduction in fuel prices in the next pricing window.

This will be achieved through the temporary suspension of selected taxes and margins, which are expected to be officially announced during the upcoming pricing review.

The relief measure will remain in place for four weeks, subject to review depending on developments in the Middle East conflict and global crude oil price trends.

To further cushion commuters, the Minister for Transport has been tasked to fast-track the deployment of 100 newly acquired Metro Mass Transit buses.

These buses will operate alongside the existing fleet, particularly on high-traffic routes, with fares set lower than those charged by private transport operators.

In a move to demonstrate leadership and shared sacrifice, all ministers and senior government appointees have also been instructed to strictly comply with the President’s directive cancelling fuel allocations and allowances.

The measures signal the government’s attempt to balance economic pressures with social protection as global uncertainties continue to impact fuel costs.
