Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has tasked the District Chief Executive (DCE), Peter Amponsah, to use his ongoing two-week visit to Canada to pursue partnerships, investment and development opportunities for the constituency.
The MP said the visit should go beyond exposure and provide the DCE with an opportunity to learn from Canada’s approach to local governance, community development, technology and service delivery and identify ideas that could be adapted to the needs of Amenfi Central.
Ms Gyan Cudjoe says she is pleased that the district’s leadership is engaging with institutions and communities outside Ghana, describing the trip as an opportunity to broaden the constituency’s outlook on development.
She urged the DCE to explore potential opportunities in education, healthcare, agriculture, agro-processing, mining, roads, infrastructure, water and sanitation.
Other areas she identified include youth development, skills training, digital transformation, technology, entrepreneurship, job creation, tourism, investment, environmental protection and community development.
According to the MP, the DCE could use the visit to examine how Canadian communities are planned and developed, how local governments operate, and how businesses, industries and public institutions collaborate to deliver services and create sustainable economic opportunities.
She also encouraged him to study approaches to youth skills development, technology deployment, healthcare and education delivery, with the aim of identifying practices that could be relevant to Amenfi Central.
Ms Gyan Cudjoe further urged the DCE to establish relationships with Canadian businesses, investors, development organisations, NGOs, foundations and universities that may have an interest in supporting development initiatives in the district.
She said members of the Ghanaian and Amenfi diaspora in Canada should also be engaged, particularly those with the expertise, resources or investment capacity to contribute to projects and initiatives in the constituency.
“Amenfi Central has enormous potential. We have our people, our natural resources, our hardworking youth, our farmers, our businesses and our communities,” she said.
She noted that unlocking this potential would require deliberate efforts to connect local opportunities with appropriate partners, knowledge, technology and investment.
The Amenfi Central MP stressed that the development of the constituency should be treated as a collective responsibility involving the District Assembly, political leadership, traditional authorities, the private sector, development partners and residents.
“As MP, I believe strongly that the development of Amenfi Central is a shared responsibility. The MP, DCE, Assembly, traditional leaders, private sector, development partners and our people all have a role to play,” she said.
Ms Gyan Cudjoe therefore urged Mr Amponsah to maximise the two-week visit by building meaningful relationships, gaining practical knowledge and identifying opportunities that could translate into tangible benefits for the people of Amenfi Central.
“So, Hon. Peter, enjoy the experience, learn as much as you can, build strong relationships and, most importantly, bring the opportunities home,” she added.
She wished the DCE a successful and productive trip and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at attracting investment, partnerships, expertise and development opportunities to Amenfi Central.
According to her, the constituency remains open to partnerships that can improve livelihoods, create opportunities for young people and accelerate development across its communities.
“Together, we can do more for our people,” she said.
