Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has clarified the circumstances surrounding an invitation from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), stressing that he has never personally been the subject of an investigation by the anti-graft agency.
According to the MP, the matter concerns SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited, which his law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, represents in legal matters.
In a statement addressing what he described as the “said EOCO invitation,” Mr Awuah said it is important to distinguish between an investigation involving his client and any suggestion that he himself is under investigation.
He explained that the firm had represented and continues to represent SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited, which is the entity under investigation by EOCO.
The MP further disclosed that EOCO, in a letter dated February 10, 2026, invited the Senior Partner of Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners to appear before the Executive Director or his representative at the agency’s head office in Accra on February 17, 2026.
The invitation, according to Mr Awuah, was for the Senior Partner to “assist with the investigations.”
However, he said that by February 18, 2026, he had become a Member of Parliament and therefore responded to EOCO, informing the agency of his new status.
He subsequently referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament for advice, according to the statement.
Mr Awuah said the development did not bring the firm’s cooperation with EOCO to an end.
Rather, he explained that a lawful representative of Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners subsequently engaged with EOCO investigators on three separate occasions.
The meetings took place on March 4, March 18 and April 30, 2026.
During those engagements, the representative of the firm, according to the MP, provided the information requested by EOCO in connection with its investigation.
He added that the firm also submitted a formal written statement to EOCO on April 30, 2026, setting out the relevant information concerning the matter.
Mr Awuah stressed that after the representative of the firm had cooperated with the investigation, attended the interrogations and provided the requested information and formal statement, there had been no further invitation from EOCO.
“It is significant to note that since the lawful representative of the firm engaged with EOCO and provided the information and formal written Statement required, there has been no further invitation,” he said.
The clarification comes amid renewed public attention surrounding an incident at the Accra High Court on September 23, 2026, involving EOCO officials and the Manhyia South MP, who was at the court in his capacity as defence counsel for detained nurse Salomey Baffoe.
Mr Awuah’s statement seeks to place the earlier EOCO correspondence in context, particularly regarding whether the invitation was directed at him personally or arose from his firm’s representation of SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
He maintained that he had never been the subject of the investigation and highlighted the steps taken by his law firm to cooperate with EOCO after he became a Member of Parliament.
