The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Adwoa Cudjoe, has rolled out a series of interventions targeting critical needs in water, education, roads, healthcare, security, agriculture and women’s empowerment across the constituency.
The interventions are aimed at addressing some of the longstanding challenges confronting communities in the Wassa Amenfi Central Constituency and improving access to essential services.
For years, several communities in the constituency have grappled with inadequate access to potable water, poor road networks, limited educational resources and gaps in healthcare and security infrastructure.
The latest interventions, therefore, form part of a broader effort to respond directly to those challenges and translate her development commitments into projects at the community level.
One of the major interventions is the commencement of work on 30 new boreholes across communities in the constituency.
The project is intended to provide residents with more reliable access to potable water and reduce their dependence on potentially unsafe water sources.
Communities expected to benefit include Agona-Amenfi, Jeduakese, Juabo, Dominase and Amokrom, among others.
The provision of the boreholes is expected to ease the burden on households, particularly in communities where residents have historically travelled considerable distances in search of water.
Beyond convenience, improved access to safe drinking water could also contribute to better sanitation and help reduce the risk of water-related diseases.
Education is another major component of the MP’s constituency interventions.
Through the Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe Teacher Initiative, support is being provided to 39 schools serving a combined enrolment of 8,829 pupils and 137 teachers.
According to information provided by the initiative, GH¢84,240 is allocated each month, translating into GH¢589,680 over seven months.
The initiative is intended to support teaching and learning and help address teacher-related challenges, particularly in communities where schools have difficulties attracting and retaining teachers.
The MP’s wider business and development initiatives have also created employment opportunities for more than 6,000 people, with the teacher initiative providing additional direct employment opportunities in the education sector.
Poor road infrastructure has also been a longstanding concern in parts of Amenfi Central, particularly among farming communities that depend on road networks to transport agricultural produce to markets and access other essential services.
To support road improvement efforts, the MP donated GH¢28,000 in fuel for the operation of DRIP machines to reshape roads serving Ankasie Donkorkrom, Obibakrom, Appiahkrom and Fourdjourkrom.
The intervention is expected to improve accessibility and ease transportation difficulties for residents, farmers and other road users.
The people have described the initiative as a constituency-level intervention aimed at complementing broader efforts to improve rural roads.
Healthcare infrastructure is also receiving attention under the development programme.
Work is ongoing on the Ankwaso CHPS Compound, while new CHPS compounds are being developed at Sraha Ayiem, Ankasie, Jedua Kese, Adidaase and Hiawa.
The projects are expected to bring basic healthcare services closer to residents, particularly those in rural communities who may have to travel long distances to access medical care.
At Manso Amenfi, a maternity block equipped with a theatre is also being developed.
The facility is expected to strengthen maternal healthcare delivery and improve access to services for pregnant women and other residents within the area.
Security infrastructure forms another part of the MP’s development agenda.
Police stations are under construction at Sraha Ayiem and Achichire, with the projects intended to strengthen the presence of security personnel and improve access to policing services in the affected communities.
The proponents of the projects believe improved police infrastructure will enhance the response to security incidents and contribute to a safer environment for residents and businesses.
The MP’s interventions also extend to agriculture and women’s economic empowerment.
Cudjoe has supported women vegetable farmers with training aimed at improving their farming practices and productivity.
She has also encouraged farmers within the constituency to adopt modern agricultural methods as part of efforts to increase productivity and strengthen livelihoods.
Women’s empowerment remains another area of focus, with initiatives intended to provide women with opportunities to participate more actively in economic activities and improve their household incomes.
Taken together, the interventions cover several areas that directly affect the daily lives of residents—water, education, roads, healthcare, security and agriculture.
For constituents, the projects represent a constituency-focused approach to parliamentary representation, with an emphasis on identifying local challenges and mobilising resources to address them.
Many of the projects, however, are still ongoing, meaning their full impact will depend on their completion, effective management and sustainability over time.
Nevertheless, the interventions have generated renewed optimism among sections of the constituency, particularly residents who have long called for improvements in basic infrastructure and access to essential services.
Amenfi Central, once characterised by some residents as an area struggling with inadequate infrastructure and essential services, is now witnessing a renewed development push under the leadership of Hon. Joana Gyan Adwoa Cudjoe.
For her supporters, the ongoing projects signal a shift in the development trajectory of the constituency and demonstrate what they describe as a commitment to moving Amenfi Central from the margins to the frontline of constituency development.
