The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, has dismissed claims that an existing classroom block at Mankranso is being demolished to pave the way for the construction of a 24-hour market.
According to the DCE, the claims, contained in a video circulating on social media by Baabi Dehyee Kwaku, the Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, are false, misleading and politically motivated.
Hon. Abubakar Sedik said the attempt to create the impression that the construction of the 24-hour market would involve the demolition of an existing school building is completely untrue.
The DCE explained that the classroom block at the centre of the controversy was constructed in 2022 but has remained unused since its completion.
He said the decision to construct the facility at the time did not adequately reflect the pressing needs of the people, particularly given that the building has remained unutilised.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the classroom block being referred to was constructed in 2022 and has since remained unused,” the DCE stated.
He added that the circumstances surrounding the construction of the facility, coupled with its continued non-use, raised legitimate questions about the prioritisation of development needs within the community.
Hon. Abubakar Sedik stressed that there is no plan to demolish the classroom block to make way for the 24-hour market.
“Let me state categorically that no one is going to demolish the said school building to construct the 24-hour market,” he said.
He explained that the market project is being undertaken independently and had no connection with the demolition of the classroom facility.
The DCE therefore urged residents and the general public to disregard the claims circulating on social media, describing them as misinformation intended to undermine a development initiative.
According to the DCE, the 24-hour market is a major development initiative designed to create economic opportunities, improve trading conditions and contribute to the socio-economic development of Mankranso and the Ahafo Ano South West District.
He said the project is part of efforts to provide infrastructure capable of supporting commercial activities and improving the livelihoods of residents.
The project, he noted, is being undertaken in the interest of the people and should not be allowed to become a victim of partisan political disagreements.
Hon. Abubakar Sedik called on the public to focus on the potential benefits of the project rather than being distracted by what he described as politically motivated claims.
The DCE reaffirmed his commitment to development and improving the living conditions of residents across the Ahafo Ano South West District.
“I stand for development. The work continues,” he declared.
He cautioned political actors and members of the public against using misinformation to create unnecessary tension around projects intended to benefit local communities.
“We must not allow partisan politics and misinformation to undermine developmental projects that are being undertaken in the interest of our people,” he said.
Hon. Abubakar Sedik said his focus as District Chief Executive remained firmly on advancing development and improving the lives of residents.
He pledged to continue supporting projects capable of delivering meaningful and lasting benefits to communities within the Ahafo Ano South West District.
He further appealed to residents to disregard the claims contained in the circulating video and treat them as misleading political propaganda.
The DCE said the Assembly would remain committed to working with stakeholders to advance development across the district.
“United we work, together we build a better Ahafo Ano South West,” he said.
