The Chief and Queen Mother of Akyem Asene, together with members of the royal family, have appealed to the Ghana Police Service to urgently strengthen security in the community following rising tensions linked to an alleged attempt by some individuals to take over the chief’s palace.
The appeal was made during a press conference held at the Akyem Asene palace in the Asene Manso Akroso District.
Addressing the media, the Chief of Akyem Asene, Nana Kakari Apau Frimpong III, said the town had enjoyed peace under his leadership as the legally gazetted chief until recent developments involving what he described as a breakaway faction within the royal family.

According to him, the group has allegedly gone ahead to enstool a rival chief despite the fact that he remains on the stool and has not been destooled.
The chief claimed some suspected hoodlums were planning to unlawfully seize the palace, warning that the situation could escalate if security authorities fail to intervene swiftly.
He therefore called on the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to intensify police presence in the community to maintain peace and order.
“We will not sit unconcerned and allow anybody to unlawfully take over the palace,” Nana Kakari Apau Frimpong III stressed, adding that residents may be forced to defend themselves if adequate protection is not provided.
The Queen Mother of Akyem Asene, Nana Afia Kesewaa, also appealed to the police administration to act immediately to prevent possible violence in the town.

She expressed concern about the safety of women and children, noting that the community does not want to witness any loss of lives as tensions continue to rise.
The head of the Asene Agona Royal Family, Opanin Kwame Kyei Badu, cautioned individuals allegedly fomenting trouble in the area to abandon their actions and rather support peace and development in the community.

He warned that while the royal family remains committed to peace, they would resist any unlawful attempts to destabilise the town.
Meanwhile, youth leader Adu Boahen called on the District Security Council, community stakeholders and the IGP to urgently beef up security before the situation deteriorates further.
