The Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of his Personal Aide, Maxwell Kofi Anti, describing the loss as painful and heartbreaking for the entire constituency.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the former Deputy Minister of Health disclosed that several sympathisers from the corporate sector, religious organisations, government agencies and political circles have visited his residence to mourn with him and the bereaved family following the tragic passing of his aide.
According to the statement, the death of Maxwell Kofi Anti has plunged the entire Akyem Oda constituency into a state of grief, with many residents and supporters struggling to come to terms with the unfortunate development.
Maxwell Kofi Anti reportedly lost his life in a tragic road accident on the Oda–Oda Nkwanta stretch in the Eastern Region, while three other persons sustained various injuries and remain in critical condition at the hospital.
Preliminary information indicates that the fatal crash involved two vehicles in a head-on collision while the deceased was on official assignment.
The late Kofi Anti was reportedly travelling to monitor the ongoing NPP polling station elections at Oda Nkwanta when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The MP noted that the outpouring of support and solidarity from people across different sectors reflects the impact the late Maxwell Kofi Anti had on many lives within and beyond the constituency.
“Several well-wishers from the corporate world and religious bodies visited the MP at his residence to mourn with us on the unfortunate demise of his Personal Aide, Maxwell Kofi Anti,” the statement said.
It further indicated that representatives of corporate institutions, religious leaders, heads of agencies and party sympathisers who visited the residence were overwhelmed with emotion, with many unable to hold back their tears as they commiserated with the MP and party faithful.
According to the statement, the Office of the MP remains in close contact with the family of the deceased as preparations continue to give Maxwell Kofi Anti a befitting burial.
The statement added that details regarding the one-week observance and final funeral rites will be communicated to the public in due course.
The death of Maxwell Kofi Anti has generated widespread sadness in Akyem Oda, with many residents remembering him for his dedication and service to the constituency and the office of the MP.
