A tragic road accident on the Oda–Oda Nkwanta stretch in the Eastern Region has claimed the life of Maxwell Kofi Nti, a personal aide to the Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, while three other persons remain in critical condition at the hospital.
The fatal crash, which occurred while the deceased was on official assignment, involved two vehicles in a head-on collision, according to preliminary information.
Authorities are yet to fully establish the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
Kofi Nti was reportedly travelling in a New Patriotic Party (NPP) pickup vehicle to monitor the ongoing NPP polling station elections at Oda Nkwanta when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Three survivors from the crash are currently receiving treatment and are said to be in critical condition.
The death of Kofi Nti has thrown the Akyem Oda political fraternity into mourning, with party members, constituents, friends and associates expressing shock over the sudden loss. He is survived by his wife and family.
Reacting to the tragedy in a heartfelt Facebook post, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah described the deceased as a hardworking, truthful and dignified man whose loyalty and dedication to duty stood out.
According to the MP, Kofi Nti played an indispensable role in his political and personal life, making the loss extremely painful to bear.
“What needless pain we need to bear — Kofi da yie,” the MP wrote emotionally.
“Kofi, God knows best. You fought a good fight for our party. You died a hero,” he added.
The tragedy adds to the growing number of fatal road accidents recorded in the Eastern Region in recent times, raising fresh concerns over road safety in the area.
Just within the past month, the region has witnessed several deadly crashes, including one that claimed the life of Kenneth Anim, former Eastern Regional Coordinator of the Free SHS Secretariat, a development that also sparked widespread grief and condolences.
Road safety advocates and residents have increasingly expressed concern about the alarming rate of accidents on roads within the region.
Many are calling on government agencies and road authorities to urgently improve road conditions and intensify enforcement of traffic regulations to curb the rising fatalities.
The latest incident has once again renewed calls for decisive action to address what many residents describe as a growing road safety crisis in the Eastern Region.
