Amenfi Central Member of Parliament, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has intensified efforts to address persistent electricity challenges confronting communities across the constituency, insisting that access to reliable power must be treated as a development issue rather than a partisan matter.
The MP made the commitment after meeting with Assembly Members, former Assembly Members, constituency executives and community leaders to document and assess electricity-related challenges affecting residents across Amenfi Central.
The engagement focused on a number of concerns, including faulty and inadequate transformers, damaged electricity meters, challenges involving the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), unstable power supply and communities that continue to struggle with reliable electricity.

The discussions also covered the need to extend electricity infrastructure to underserved communities and address other energy-related concerns affecting households, businesses and economic activities in the constituency.
Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe particularly commended Hon. Gyenfi Emmanuel, the NPP Assembly Member for Kwaku Boah, for what she described as consistent efforts to draw attention to the electricity challenges confronting his constituents.
According to the MP, Hon. Gyenfi raised the matter several months ago and continued to follow up on it two months ago and again the previous month.
She noted that his decision to personally attend the latest engagement with his team demonstrated a commitment to the welfare of his constituents, irrespective of political affiliation.
The MP said such actions represented the kind of leadership needed to address development challenges at the community level.
She stressed that leaders must prioritise the needs of residents over partisan considerations, particularly when dealing with essential services such as electricity.
Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe maintained that development projects and basic public services should not be viewed through a political lens.
“Development has no political colour,” she emphasised, stressing that electricity, transformers, meters, ECG services, roads, schools, healthcare and other essential services benefit everyone, regardless of political affiliation.
The delegation that participated in the discussions included Hon. Gyenfi Emmanuel, Hon. Mathias Coffie, Hon. Richard Angsokpieg, Hon. Enock Kwaw Sekyim, Hon. Adowah Stephen and Hon. Kwame Ashie.
Former Assembly Members and constituency leaders, including Hon. Anita Lafone and Hon. Daniel Appiah, popularly known as Chairman Daniel, were also part of the engagement.
The MP disclosed that efforts to address the electricity problems in Amenfi Central had been ongoing for approximately three months.
She said her office, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Peter Amposah, the NDC constituency and branch structures, Assembly Members and community leaders had been working together and engaging relevant energy authorities and ECG officials to find lasting solutions.
According to her, the process involves identifying specific electricity challenges in affected communities, documenting them and following up with the appropriate institutions responsible for resolving them.
She expressed optimism that the interventions would begin yielding results soon.
With commitments and assurances from President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Energy, the MP said she remained hopeful that solutions to some of the transformer and electricity challenges would begin to emerge before the end of August.
She, however, pledged that the engagements and follow-ups would continue until residents began to see tangible improvements.
Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe also used the opportunity to reaffirm her commitment to serving all residents of Amenfi Central, irrespective of their political affiliations.
She said her representation in Parliament was not limited to members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), but extended to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), supporters of other political parties and residents with no political affiliation.
“I am the Member of Parliament for everybody in Amenfi Central — not only NDC,” she said, emphasising that her doors remained open to residents who needed assistance with genuine development concerns.
She identified farmers, market women, business owners, drivers, teachers, nurses, students, artisans, workers, traditional and religious leaders, elderly persons and families across the constituency as part of the people she is mandated to serve.
The MP encouraged residents and community leaders facing electricity, transformer, meter, ECG, road, education, healthcare or other development challenges to bring them to her attention through her office, her team or their respective Assembly Members.
She assured residents that such concerns would be listened to, documented and followed up with the relevant authorities.
The MP called on political actors, community leaders and residents to put partisan differences aside and work collectively to accelerate development in Amenfi Central.
She urged residents to support efforts being undertaken by stakeholders to improve infrastructure and basic services across the constituency.
“Let us put politics aside. Let us work hard together with Joana Gyan Cudjoe and support the people of Amenfi Central,” she said.
She linked the constituency’s development agenda to the broader government programme of “Resetting Ghana” and building what the government describes as “the Ghana We Want.”
The MP maintained that Amenfi Central could make meaningful progress when political and community leaders collaborated in the interest of residents.
She made a call for unity, describing the vision for the constituency as “One Amenfi Central, One People, One Future”, while reiterating her commitment to “Development Above Politics.”
