Residents of Twifo Nuamakrom in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region have been left in shock following the exhumation of the body of an 80-year-old prophetess who was allegedly buried secretly inside her bedroom by her husband several months after her demise.
The deceased, Prophetess Esther Olabisi, founder and leader of the Miracle Prayer Healing Centre at Twifo Nuamakrom, reportedly died after battling a prolonged illness.
According to information gathered, the late prophetess passed away months ago, but instead of informing the relevant authorities and organizing a formal burial, her husband, identified as Kweku Charles, allegedly buried her remains inside their matrimonial bedroom under mysterious circumstances.
The incident reportedly remained unknown to many residents until concerns were raised by some family members and members of the community, who became suspicious about the circumstances surrounding the prophetess’ disappearance and lack of burial arrangements.
The concerns subsequently triggered investigations by local authorities.
Acting on directives from the appropriate authorities, officials from the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Environmental Health Unit, together with personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and members of the deceased’s family, stormed the residence to carry out an exhumation exercise.
The operation attracted large crowds of shocked residents, many of whom gathered around the house to witness the unusual exercise as officers carefully retrieved the remains from the alleged burial spot inside the bedroom.
Authorities explained that the exhumation became necessary to ensure compliance with public health regulations and proper burial procedures, while also aiding ongoing police investigations into the incident.
Following the exercise, the remains of Prophetess Esther Olabisi were prepared for reburial and later transported to the Twifo Nuamakrom Cemetery, where she was given a dignified burial in accordance with accepted customs and legal requirements.
Meanwhile, Kweku Charles has been arrested and is currently in police custody assisting investigators with inquiries into the matter.
Police are expected to determine whether any laws were violated and establish the exact circumstances and motive behind the alleged secret burial.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion within the community, with many residents expressing disbelief and calling for a full-scale investigation to uncover the truth behind the shocking development.
Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that appropriate legal action will be taken depending on the outcome of the inquiry.
