Three peoole are feared dead following a fatal helicopter crash earlier today in Tema on Monday, March 16, 2026.
The aircraft reportedly went down in Oninku Drive School Park in Tema community one, near the city’s central business district.
Eyewitnesses at the scene described the harrowing sight as the wreckage became engulfed in fire almost immediately.
First responders from the Ghana National Fire Service are at the scene working to recover the bodies from the wreckage.
The identities of the occupants have not yet been released pending forensic identification and notification of kin.
The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) are expected to take over the site to begin a full recovery and investigation operation.
Officials are urging the public to stay clear of the crash site to allow investigators to preserve evidence.
”We heard a loud bang and then saw the smoke. By the time we got close, the heat was too much to do anything,” said one local resident.
