The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has confirmed a crash involving a microlight aircraft with registration number 9GADV.
This statement clarifies numerous initial reports that incorrectly suggested a helicopter had crashed in Tema and that three lives had been lost.
The regulatory body, which is responsible for airspace management and air transport safety in Ghana, confirmed the crash but has not yet released information regarding the condition of the two individuals on board or the cause of the accident.
According to a press release from the GCAA, the aircraft crashed in Tema on Monday, March 16, with two people on board contradicting earlier, inaccurate reports circulating on various news portals.
This incident has prompted an immediate investigation by aviation authorities.
The statement revealed the aircraft was traveling from Ho to Accra when the incident occurred.
The GCAA noted that the flight was expected to arrive in Accra at 15:20 Z (3:20 PM local time), but communication was lost shortly after 2:00 PM.
