Portuguese tactician, Carlos Queiroz, has officially announced his resignation as head coach of the national team Black Stars following Ghana’s exit at the Round of 32 stage of the .
The former coach confirmed his departure in an emotional farewell message shared on Facebook, where he reflected on his tenure with the national team and expressed appreciation to the , players, technical staff, and supporters for their support throughout his time in charge.
Queiroz, who took over the Black Stars with the aim of rebuilding the team and restoring its competitive edge on the international stage, acknowledged that although Ghana did not achieve complete sporting success at the World Cup, the team succeeded in regaining respect and credibility on football’s biggest platform.
In his statement, the experienced Portuguese trainer noted that football, like life, presents opportunities either to win or to learn, stressing that he leaves the role proud of the achievements made during his tenure, while still desiring greater success for the team.
“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more,” he stated.
He further emphasized that the future success of the Black Stars would not depend solely on performances on the pitch, but also on the structures and systems put in place behind the scenes to nurture and protect Ghana’s football talents.
“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Black Stars success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent,” he wrote.
Queiroz also extended gratitude to the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GTA) for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the senior national team.
“To my President and Board, thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team. It was an honor and privilege to serve the Country and the Black Stars,” portions of the statement read.
The outgoing coach equally praised his players and technical team for their dedication, commitment, and courage throughout the World Cup campaign.
Addressing supporters, Queiroz admitted that while the team may not have fully satisfied the expectations of fans in terms of results, they nevertheless fought hard and restored national pride.
“To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage,” he added.
He maintained in his farewell message with optimism about the future of Ghana football, stating, “Thank you, Ghana. The journey starts now.”
Queiroz’s resignation now leaves GFA with the task of appointing a new head coach to lead the Black Stars into the next phase of international competitions, including preparations for upcoming continental and global qualifiers.
