The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has settled GH¢2.306 billion in outstanding obligations to bondholders affected by the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), completing its mandatory payments for the 2026 financial year.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, COCOBOD said the payment of GH¢2,306,202,372.09 brings to a close its scheduled 2026 obligations to holders of bonds affected by the debt exchange programme.

The development forms part of efforts by the cocoa regulator to meet its financial commitments while strengthening the financial sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.

COCOBOD explained that the latest payment follows an earlier GH¢376.33 million coupon payment made in March 2026.

With the September settlement, the total amount paid by COCOBOD to DDEP bondholders during 2026 stands at GH¢2.683 billion.

The Board said the payments demonstrate its commitment to meeting its financial obligations in a systematic and responsible manner.

COCOBOD also disclosed that it had fully settled GH¢162 million owed to holders of Cocoa Bills who did not participate in the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.

The payment, made in July 2026, brought COCOBOD’s outstanding obligations to the affected non-DDEP Cocoa Bill holders to an end.

The Board said the various settlements are part of a broader financial management strategy aimed at improving the financial position of the cocoa sector.

According to COCOBOD, the completion of the payments reflects its commitment to responsible financial management and the systematic settlement of its financial obligations.

The Board said the process is being undertaken as part of broader efforts, under the guidance of the Ministry of Finance, to strengthen the financial sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry.

The Domestic Debt Exchange Programme was introduced as part of the government’s broader debt restructuring efforts, with various categories of domestic debt instruments, including those held by institutional investors, subjected to restructuring.

COCOBOD’s latest settlement is expected to provide certainty to affected bondholders and investors while reinforcing the Board’s efforts to manage its financial commitments.

The Board said it remains committed to responsible financial management and to supporting the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.
