As part of the government’s commitment to modernising Ghana’s transport sector, the Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has led a high-level delegation to Shiyan, a historic and modern city in the northwest of Hubei Province, Central China.
Madam Affo-Toffey, who also serves as Member of Parliament for the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, was accompanied by the Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), Kale Cesar Esq.; his deputy, Haroun Apaw-Wiredu; and other officials from both MMTL and the Ministry of Transport.
During the visit, the delegation toured Xiangyang Tenglong Automobile Co., Ltd., a major vehicle manufacturing company.
The firm, which boasts assets of nearly one billion yuan, occupies approximately 444,000 square metres and operates comprehensive workshops covering stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly processes.
The facility is equipped with more than 600 sets of advanced production lines and equipment, including a leading vehicle electrophoresis line and an EMS automated electric hoist final assembly system.
Its product range includes new energy buses, public and commercial vehicles, special-purpose vehicles, and intelligent transportation equipment.
The delegation engaged with leading vehicle manufacturers to explore the possible procurement of buses for Ghana’s public transport system.
The visit also aimed to support efforts to expand the country’s national fleet and establish technical partnerships with Chinese firms.
Additionally, the team inspected Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) smart electric buses in Suzhou, assessing their capacity and suitability for Ghana’s road conditions and safety requirements.
The trip forms part of broader government efforts to deliver a more efficient, reliable, and safe public transport system for Ghanaians.
