Flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Maxwell Kofi Anti, the personal aide to the Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, following his tragic death in a road accident.
The emotional tribute was delivered during a meeting with the Minority Caucus in Parliament, where Dr. Bawumia requested a one-minute silence in honour of the deceased, acknowledging his dedication and sacrifices to the party.
According to reports, Maxwell Kofi Anti lost his life in a fatal accident on the Oda–Oda Nkwanta stretch in the Eastern Region on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Three other individuals who were involved in the crash sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment in critical condition.
Preliminary information indicates that the accident involved two vehicles in a head-on collision while the deceased was undertaking an official assignment for the party.
Sources close to the family and party executives revealed that the late Kofi Anti was travelling to supervise and monitor the NPP polling station elections at Oda Nkwanta when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Reacting to the gesture by Dr. Bawumia, the Akyem Oda legislator, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, expressed deep appreciation for the recognition shown to his late aide.
In a statement following the meeting, the MP described the moment as both “heartwarming and humbling,” noting that Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the late Kofi Anti’s commitment to the party and his sacrifice in the line of duty.
“It was heartwarming and humbling when the next President of Ghana, Dr. Mahmoudu Bawumia, requested for a one minute silence in memory of Maxwell Kofi Anti, my PA who painfully died on Saturday, 16th May, 2026 in an accident,” the MP stated.
He further disclosed that Dr. Bawumia told the gathering of Minority MPs that he recognised the sacrifices made by Kofi Anti, who died while actively serving the party.
The visibly emotional MP ended his tribute with a short farewell message to his late aide, saying: “Kofi rest well wai.”
The passing of Maxwell Kofi Anti has sparked an outpouring of grief among party supporters and members of the NPP in the Eastern Region, with many describing him as a hardworking and loyal party operative whose dedication to duty remained unwavering until his final moments.
