Fifteen months after the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary election, the Bono Regional Directorate of the Electoral Commission (EC) has refunded filing fees of the Independent Parliamentary Candidate for the Sunyani East constituency, Ransford Antwi.
The refund presentation took place on Friday, March 27, 2026, at a short ceremony.
Per the regulations of the EC, the nomination fee paid by the aspirants is refunded after the election if he or she gets a certain percentage of the total valid votes cast in the election.
The National Democratic Congress’s (NDC’s) Seid Mubarak pulled 34,453 of the total valid vote; the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Kwasi Ameyew-Cheremeh pulled 22,306; Mr Ransford Antwi pulled 8,294; and the fourth person, Alanyina Sampana Sampson, pulled 222.
It was as a result of the above figures that the EC refunded the filing fee of GH¢10,000 to Mr Antwi.
Reacting to the development in an interview, Mr Antwi expressed his deepest appreciation to the EC for refunding his filing fees.
He said refunding the filing fees to him would inspire many of the youth to engage in active politics and help deepen and consolidate the gains of the nation’s fledgling democracy.
“I received a call from the EC that I had qualified for a refund of my filing fee as an independent parliamentary candidate for Sunyani East, following our good performance in the 2024 General Elections.” Mr Antwi told the media.
He said that “I subsequently arranged for the cheque to be picked up on my behalf” and expressed appreciation to “everyone who made the short six-month project possible and a big one to EC”.
“In fact, I didn’t expect it, and that took me by surprise”, Mr Antwi, also Chief Executive Officer of the Suncity Group of Companies, added.
