The Ministry of Education has received clearance from the Ministry of Finance to recruit 7,000 new teachers.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, during a press conference held today.
The Minister, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, highlighted that this recruitment drive is a strategic effort to bridge the teacher-to-pupil gap in public schools across the country.
It is also a significant move to bolster the nation’s teaching workforce and provide a sigh of relief to graduate teachers who have been demanding clearance and postings through picketing at the Ministry.
Aspiring educators are advised to take note of the following timeline and eligibility criteria:
Portal Opening Date: Friday, April 10, 2026.
Target Cohorts: Graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 academic years.
The Minister emphasized that the selection process will be transparent and competitive to ensure that only the highest quality personnel enter the classroom.
”I am happy to note and announce that the Ministry of Education has received clearance and approval from the Ministry of Finance for the recruitment of teachers.
We would be recruiting at least 7,000 teachers across the country,” Haruna Iddrisu stated.
While the recruitment is nationwide, the Ministry is placing a heavy emphasis on rural and disadvantaged communities.
The Minister explained that the placement strategy is designed to address “significant gaps and deficits” in specific geographical locations.
Priority will be given to applicants willing to serve in the Northern Region, Dambai in the Oti Region, and other identified “deprived and underserved” areas.
The Minister urged qualified graduates to prepare their documentation ahead of the portal launch.
By focusing on the 2023–2025 cohorts, the Ministry aims to integrate fresh talent into the Ghana Education Service (GES) while tackling the backlog of trained teachers waiting for official posting.
”We want the process to be open, transparent, and competitive,” the Minister maintained, reassuring the public that meritocracy will be the guiding principle for the 2026 recruitment cycle.
