Akyem Oda braces for an emotional weekend as family, NPP executives and thousands of mourners prepare to bid farewell to Maxwell Kofi Anti, whose life was cut short in a horrific road accident while reportedly undertaking an urgent party assignment.

The NPP fraternity in Akyem Oda is set for a major gathering this weekend as the final funeral rites of Maxwell Kofi Anti, a former personal aide to Akyem Oda Member of Parliament Alexander Akwasi Acquah, take place from Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 13, 2026.

The funeral is expected to draw party stalwarts, constituency executives, grassroots activists, friends, sympathisers and thousands of mourners to Akyem Oda, with Saturday, September 12 expected to be the major day of the ceremonies.

But behind the anticipated large gathering is a deeply painful story of a political assignment that ended in tragedy.

Kofi Anti died on Saturday, May 16, 2026, after the vehicle in which he was travelling was involved in a serious accident along the Oda–Oda Nkwanta road.

He was reportedly travelling with two other NPP members under urgent circumstances to deliver a letter seeking an injunction to halt polling station executive elections at Oda Nkwanta amid disputes over the conduct of the electoral process.

What began as an urgent party mission, however, ended in devastating circumstances.

The vehicle reportedly crashed while the three party members were on their way to deliver the document.

Kofi Anti sustained critical injuries in the accident and was rushed to a nearby health facility for emergency treatment.

Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The two other occupants survived the crash but sustained injuries and subsequently received medical attention.

Kofi Anti’s death triggered an outpouring of grief within the NPP, particularly in the Akyem Oda Constituency, where he was known for his active involvement in party affairs.

His role as a former personal aide to the constituency’s MP also placed him at the centre of several political and constituency engagements, earning him recognition among party members and supporters.

His sudden death therefore came as a major shock to those who knew and worked with him.

For party members, his passing represents not only the loss of an individual but also the loss of a committed operative who remained involved in the party’s grassroots activities.

With the funeral now only days away, preparations are intensifying in Akyem Oda.

The bereaved family, together with members of the NPP, is making arrangements to receive mourners expected from across the constituency and beyond.

Party executives, political associates, friends and sympathisers are expected to join the family to pay their final respects.

The main funeral activities on Saturday are expected to attract a particularly large crowd as the NPP community gathers to honour the memory of Kofi Anti.

The circumstances surrounding Kofi Anti’s death have given his funeral an added emotional significance.

He was reportedly on an urgent political assignment when the accident occurred, making his final journey one that began as an act of party service but ended in tragedy.

As Akyem Oda prepares to receive thousands of mourners, the focus will shift from the circumstances of his death to the life he lived, the relationships he built and the contribution he made to the NPP in the constituency.

The final funeral rites will run from Friday, September 11 through Sunday, September 13, bringing together family members, political associates, friends and sympathisers.

For the NPP fraternity in Akyem Oda, the weekend will be one of both mourning and remembrance.

As the curtains finally come down on the funeral ceremonies, family, friends and party colleagues will say their final goodbye to Maxwell Kofi Anti a man whose life was tragically cut short while reportedly responding to an urgent call of duty.
