The Ghana Education Service (GES) has firmly stated that no school has been authorised to charge any form of fees to students or parents, reinforcing government’s commitment to the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
In a statement, GES management dismissed reports suggesting that some schools are collecting money particularly under the pretext of feeding fees describing such claims as false and misleading.
The Service urged the public to disregard what it called “unsubstantiated information” being circulated by individuals seeking to create confusion.
According to GES, any school found to be charging fees in any form is acting unlawfully and without approval.
It stressed that such practices are a direct violation of established policy and will not be tolerated.
The Service reaffirmed government’s unwavering commitment not only to sustain the Free SHS programme but also to enhance its implementation to better serve students across the country.
GES further cautioned that any attempt to undermine the policy whether through misinformation or the imposition of unauthorised charges would be considered an act against the national interest.
Parents and students who are asked to pay any form of feeding fees or other charges have been advised to promptly report such incidents to GES authorities for investigation and appropriate action.
The statement comes amid growing concerns over alleged illegal fee collections in some schools, raising questions about compliance with the Free SHS directive.
