The Ghana Police Service has arrested four suspected armed robbers following an intelligence-led operation in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
The suspects Abdulai Ibrahim, Amadu Rahman, Amadu Sulemana, also known as “Saaga,” and Adu Yakubu were picked up on May 5, 2026, after police tracked their movements and activities across parts of the region.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the group had, on May 4, 2026, converged at Gbane, a mining community in the Talensi District, after travelling from Yagaba and Fumbisi with the intent to carry out a robbery operation.
During the attack, the suspects allegedly made away with four motorbikes and several mobile phones.
Police say the suspects, during interrogation, confessed to engaging in a series of robberies within the Talensi District, particularly along the Yagaba-Fumbisi and Yagaba-Nanguruma roads in the North East Region.
The group also admitted involvement in a high-profile robbery at the Vikandi Phone Shop in Bolgatanga on March 22, 2025.
The incident, which gained widespread attention after a video went viral, showed armed men wielding an AK47 assault rifle during the attack.
According to the Police, the suspects further confessed to multiple robbery operations at mining sites in Gbane, where they reportedly stole gold and large sums of money from victims.
In a major breakthrough, the suspects led investigators to a farm near Biung, close to Gbane, where the gang’s leader, Amadu Rahman, had hidden an AK47 rifle.
A search of the location led to the retrieval of the weapon, bearing serial number 68100563, along with 87 rounds of live ammunition concealed in a fertilizer sack.
However, during the operation to retrieve the weapon, Amadu Rahman reportedly collapsed.
He was rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue pending preservation and autopsy.
The three remaining suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court to face charges in connection with the robberies.
