The Embassy of Ghana in Doha has issued an urgent security advisory for all Ghanaian residents and visitors currently in the State of Qatar.
Citing a critical “shelter in place” order, the Embassy is advising citizens to prioritize safety while exploring alternative land routes for those wishing to leave the country.
In alignment with the Qatari Ministry of Interior, the Embassy is urging all Ghanaians to stay indoors or find the nearest designated shelter, stressing that they should not go out except in cases of extreme necessity.
The Embassy is also cautioning citizens to keep away from windows or exposed areas, particularly when security alert systems are activated.
Moreover, residents have been advised to follow all guidelines issued by competent Qatari authorities until the security threat is eliminated.
Regarding documentation, the Qatari Ministry of Interior has announced that all categories of entry visas whether expired or nearing expiration will be granted a one-month extension, effective from February 28, 2026.
This period may be extended further depending on the evolution of the security situation.
While Qatari airspace remains closed, the land crossing into Saudi Arabia is currently open.
Commercial transport services are operating, but the Embassy urges citizens to review this option carefully.
Ghanaians are requested to ensure they possess the necessary travel documents and financial means.
Notably, Ghanaians holding valid US, UK, or Schengen visas (which have been used at least once) are eligible for a visa on arrival in Saudi Arabia.
For those who do not meet these criteria but wish to transit through Saudi Arabia to catch flights home, the Ghana Embassy is currently negotiating to facilitate entry visas or visas on arrival.
If you are currently in Qatar and wish to return to Ghana via the Saudi Arabian land route, the Embassy requires you to register immediately to assist in visa coordination.
