The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued an urgent advisory to Ghanaian nationals following a dramatic escalation of hostilities in the Middle East.
In a statement released on Saturday February 28, the government expressed “serious concern” over coordinated military strikes involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, signaling a dangerous new phase of regional instability.
The Ministry’s alert comes in response to a wave of military actions that have disrupted the geopolitical landscape. According to the press release.
The U.S. and Israel have launched strikes against targets within the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iran has reportedly targeted Israeli and U.S. military assets across the region, specifically in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE.
The conflict has already triggered widespread airspace closures and significant flight disruptions.
The government is urging Ghanaian citizens to prioritize safety above all else.
The Ministry has issued the following specific directives:
1. Travel Advisory
Ghanaians are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to and from the Middle East until further notice.
2. Safety Protocols for Residents
For those currently residing in Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE:
Remain inside whenever possible and strictly follow local authority directives.
Maintain Vigilance.
Avoid large gatherings and sensitive locations and keep all travel documents and identification readily accessible.
3. Diplomatic Contact
Nationals are encouraged to stay in constant communication with the nearest Ghanaian diplomatic mission and monitor official channels for updates.
However, the government has officially activated an emergency preparedness plan.
While full-scale evacuations are still being assessed, immediate action has already begun in Tehran.
”The Government has at this time initiated the evacuation of a number of staff of the Embassy of Ghana in Tehran, retaining only essential personnel to coordinate assistance to Ghanaians in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the Ministry stated.
Beyond the immediate safety of its citizens, Ghana has joined the international community in calling for an end to the violence.
The Ministry urged all involved parties to exercise restraint and return to diplomatic engagement to protect lives and ensure global economic stability.
