The Ghana Police Service has postponed the full implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement programme, TRAFFITECH-GH, from October 1 to November 1, 2026.
According to the Police Service, the decision has been taken to allow for a more extensive public awareness and education campaign ahead of the full rollout.
In a press release dated September 29, 2026, the Service said the additional month would provide motorists, drivers and vehicle owners with more time to familiarise themselves with how the system operates.
The programme, being implemented through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), is intended to strengthen the enforcement of road traffic laws through automated technology.
The Police Service explained that the rescheduling is aimed at enhancing public understanding of the programme, particularly the manner in which it will detect traffic offences and issue Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) to motorists who breach traffic regulations.
The education campaign is expected to provide motorists with information on the offences that can be detected through TRAFFITECH-GH, as well as how electronic violation notices will be issued and processed.
The Police said the move is intended to ensure that road users are adequately informed before the system becomes fully operational.
The Ghana Police Service said TRAFFITECH-GH forms part of broader efforts to address indiscipline on Ghana’s roads and improve compliance with road traffic laws and regulations.
The Service has therefore urged motorists, commercial and private drivers, as well as vehicle owners, to use the additional period to learn about the programme and understand their responsibilities under the automated enforcement system.
It further encouraged road users to familiarise themselves with the traffic regulations that will be enforced through the system before the November 1 rollout.
The Police Service expressed appreciation to the media for what it described as their “unflinching support” throughout the introduction of TRAFFITECH-GH.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the programme.
The Service said the ultimate objective is to contribute to improved road safety and greater compliance with traffic laws across the country.
The rescheduled date means the full implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH will now begin on November 1, 2026, rather than October 1 as previously announced.
