Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Asanteman COKA, has disclosed that he was hospitalised after falling ill following the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.

In a message to party supporters a day after the conference, the NPP regional chairman said he “broke down” and was taken to the hospital, but assured supporters that he is recovering and ready to continue his work for the party.

“I broke down yesterday and went to hospital. Thank God, I’m doing well this morning. The work continues!” he stated.

His message came after the NPP concluded its National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, on Saturday October 3, where delegates elected a new crop of national executives to steer the affairs of the party.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah congratulated the newly elected national officers, describing their victory as the outcome of a hard-fought contest.

He urged them to approach their new responsibilities with wisdom, strength and a commitment to advancing the interests of the party.

“I woke up to the news that our new National Executives have been elected. Congratulations to each of you on a battle well fought. We wish you wisdom and strength as you take up the mantle,” he wrote.

The message reflects an appeal for unity following the competitive national elections, which saw several candidates contest key leadership positions.

The newly elected executives are expected to play a central role in reorganising the NPP and positioning it for the next general election.

Beyond congratulating the winners, Asanteman COKA also extended goodwill to candidates who were unsuccessful in the elections.

He encouraged them to remain committed to the party despite the outcome, telling them, “Better Luck Next Time.”

He subsequently called on all members to put the internal contest behind them and work together toward a common political objective.

“Now we come together as one family, one party, one purpose,” he said.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah used the occasion to reaffirm his support party’s flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to lead the NPP into the 2028 general election.

He said the party’s collective objective must now be to work towards securing victory for Dr Bawumia in the presidential election.

“…to make Dr. Bawumia the President in 2028!” he declared.

His call comes as the NPP begins the post-conference phase of its preparations for the 2028 elections, following the election of new national officers.

The party suffered defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections and has since been engaged in efforts to rebuild its structures, strengthen internal cohesion and reposition itself for the next electoral contest.

The election of the new national executives is therefore expected to mark a new phase in the party’s organisational and political activities.

For Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, however, the immediate priority is unity.

His message combines a personal update on his health with congratulations to the new leadership and a call for party members to close ranks after the internal contest.

Despite his hospitalisation following the conference, the Ashanti Regional chairman said he remains committed to his political responsibilities with a clear indication that he intends to continue his work for the party.

“The work continues!” he reiterated.
