Justin Frimpong Kodua has retained his position as General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after securing a decisive victory at the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.

Mr Kodua polled 4,486 votes in the closely contested election held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 3, 2026, defeating three other contenders.

Former Ngleshie Amanfro Member of Parliament, Sylvester Tetteh, placed second with 1,340 votes, while Eugene Boakye Antwi obtained 162 votes. Dr Charles Dwamena followed with 126 votes.

The result gives Mr Kodua another term as the party’s chief administrator as the NPP begins efforts to reorganise its structures and strengthen its prospects ahead of the next general election.

Meanwhile, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu has been elected the NPP’s National Youth Organiser.

Mr Abanga secured 1,550 votes to win the position in a contest involving six aspirants.

He defeated Clement Opoku Gyamfi, who polled 631 votes. The other candidates recorded Michael Osei Boateng, 78 votes; Vera Oye Bram-Larbi, 44 votes; Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, 46 votes; and Alfred Kumi Ababio, 25 votes.

Mr Abanga’s victory forms part of the NPP’s election of new national officers tasked with steering the affairs of the party following the National Delegates Conference.

Speaking to the media after his victory, Mr Kodua sought to dispel concerns that his relationship with newly elected National Chairman John Boadu could become strained.

He said both men are experienced politicians who understood the responsibilities that comes with their respective positions and are committed to working towards a common objective.

His comments come against the backdrop of the two politicians’ previous contest for the General Secretary position at the NPP’s 2022 national delegates conference.

Mr Boadu lost that contest to Mr Kodua, raising questions about whether their previous rivalry could affect their ability to work together now that they occupy key positions in the party’s national leadership.

Mr Kodua, however, maintained that their focus is on strengthening the NPP and working collectively towards returning the party to government.
