Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has been elected National Chairman of the party after securing 2,888 votes at its National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
Mr Boadu, speaking on behalf of the newly elected national executives after Saturday’s election at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, pledged to lead efforts to build a stronger and more responsive NPP ahead of the next general elections.
“Our task is to build a renewed NPP, one that listens and consults more,” he said.
He said the new leadership would work closely with the party’s regional and constituency executives, external branches and Members of Parliament to strengthen the party at all levels.
“We are going to work closely with regional executives, constituents, external branches, and our MPs led by Afenyo-Markin,” Mr Boadu added.
His election comes as the NPP begins a new phase of internal reorganisation following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Mr Boadu and the other newly elected executives are expected to focus on strengthening the party’s structures, promoting unity and reconnecting with its grassroots base as the party prepares for future electoral contests.
The Kumasi conference saw delegates elect a new national leadership team to oversee the affairs of the party.
Among those elected are Daniel Titus Glover as National Organiser, Mavis Hawa Koomson as National Women’s Organiser and Abanga Fuseini Yakubu as National Youth Organiser.
Justin Kodua Frimpong retained his position as General Secretary after polling 4,486 votes. He was followed by former Ngleshie Amanfro MP Sylvester Tetteh with 1,340 votes, while Eugene Boakye Antwi and Dr Charles Dwamena secured 162 and 126 votes respectively.
For the National Youth Organiser position, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu polled 1,550 votes to defeat five other contenders.
Mr Boadu’s return to the party’s national leadership, having previously served as General Secretary, brings considerable experience to the new executive team.
His call for a renewed NPP signals an emphasis on consultation, broader engagement with party structures and a more coordinated approach to rebuilding the party ahead of the next general elections.
