Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah has filed a writ at the Accra High Court against Mr. Jamal Konney, the Deputy CEO of the Cocoa Marketing Company, over what he describes as “libelous and damaging” allegations regarding illegal mining activities.
The lawsuit stems from an alleged comments made by Mr. Konney during a live radio interview earlier this month.
According to the writ, Mr. Konney alleged that the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP was actively involved in ‘galamsey’ by importing Chinese nationals to mine in the Akyemansa area, leading to the devastation of local cocoa plantations.
The Plaintiff’s counsel, Nkrumah & Associates, argues that the broadcast has subjected the lawmaker to severe public ridicule and emotional distress.
The suit contends that these allegations were not merely political banter but a deliberate attempt to erode the trust of his constituents and stakeholders.
In addition to the GHS 30 million total in damages, the MP is seeking a perpetual injunction.
This would legally bar Mr. Konney from ever repeating the claims.
The court is also being asked to order a full cleanup of the internet, requiring the defendant to ensure the removal of the defamatory material from all digital and social media archives.
Mr. Konney and his legal team have yet to issue a formal response to the writ.
